Whenever I score half price very lean ground meat from the "close-to-pull-date" bin, I buy all of it there and freeze half when I get home. I cook the other half immediately, some as FF meatloaf in muffin tins (single serving. heh heh) some as "yummy sausage snacks" some as Rose's FF soup. Then I freeze most of that. Gives me quick dinner/lunch choices for weeks. And YEAH! I need a freezer!! (Hope DH is payin' attention!)

This is a variation of Sue's tip. Whenever I cook a whole chicken (or bone-in steak, for that matter), I save the..um..carcass/bones for making broth (put in pot, add pure water, some carrots, celery, onion, a bay leaf or two and simmer until volume reduced by 1/3 or 1/2). Chill, remove fat, freeze (or, if I'm real lazy, freeze THEN remove fat ) transfer to ziplock baggie in freezer. Grabbing a cube or two of broth for sauteing, flavoring, etc. is quick, easy, and I know it's FF P1 friendly.
Now that I have a crockpot, I'm using it to make my broth while I'm gone during the day! This is a hint for all you kitchen-phobes out there...[)]

Buying spices from the bulk bins at the local health food store (HFS) saves a BUNDLE over buying the itty bitty bottles in the grocery store
Organic spices at Wild Oats cost $12.99 - $17.99 per lb! So far, have paid pennies for three of these, enough for a recipe or two or three. The health food store spices are fresher than old bottled ones in the drawer. They enhance the dish!

Am enjoying the tips on this thread!

Trader Joe's. They have CLA for 9.99, other good supplements for great prices. Plus, organic produce and meats are 1/2 of what they are in my local health food store.

Grocery Outlet Stores. They're the grocery equivalent of those outlet stores you typically see in strip malls along the freeway (J. Crew, Misaka crystal, etc).
I have frequently scored tomato paste which is 100% tomato (no added anything). One brand is California Healthy Harvest (4 6oz cans tomato paste for $1) and another is Springfield brand (3 12oz cans tomato paste for $1). I also get ziplock bags here for 40% off retail.

I know this is going to sound boring but I check the weekly sales in the paper. [}] This week one of our local stores is having a 92nd anniversary sale so they have turkey breast for 92 cents/lb. and red peppers are 98 cents a pound(1/3 of their normal price). They also have fresh scallops for 2.99/lb. I stock up on these things when they're on sale so I can have them more often. Every little bit helps and I get some unusual food this way. []

I like the coupon suggestion, above.

Here's another use for flax seed oil:

Has anyone ever tried flax seed oil as a scalp conditioner? Every few weeks, a day or two before my shampoo, if I don't have anything planned, I drizzle a capful of flax seed oil into my scalp, and it acts as an excellent conditioner! The skin on my scalp is sensitive, and nothing relieves it like flaxseed oil! You save because you don't have to use conditioner or leave-in conditioner after you shampoo. I have gotten many compliments and the hair is unbelievably shiny and healthy-looking after applying this treatment. Also, I sleep with a cap, so my sheets aren't soiled.

Middle easteners used to have a custom of drizzling oil on the heads of weary travelers, comprised of olive oil and spices - I think they had the right idea! (Ps. 133:1,2; 23:5) It was a sign of hospitality.

Ever hear the expression, "flaxen hair?" I think it refers to color, but your hair comes out so amazing with this treatment.

Wash out empty flax oil bottles well, make up large batches of dressing and save 3-4 servings in each bottle, freeze, to take out when needed.
