What is wrong with Soy? I have heard mixed comments. Please help me understand why I should have too much Soy or why Ann Louise advises against it.

    Hi Joycegil,

Welcome to the Forum! Your question is a good one and in fact comes up quite often here.

Here's a quote from Dr. Ann Louise which you may find helpful (which was in response to another poster)

"The Unjoy of Too Much Soy!

I do not overly promote the use of soy products - like the soy milk you specifically noted was missing in my shopping list -for the following reasons:
    1. Soy is an allergen to about 50% of my personal clients and nearly 30% of individuals nationwide.
    2. Soy milk as well as other soy based products is a high source of the mineral copper which my testing has shown to be connected to chronic fatigue, hormonal irregularities, panic attacks and hair loss.
    3. Soy can negatively affect thyroid function and the absorption of zinc and iron - a feature that has its plusses and minuses.
With regard to soy, in addition to what I write in the book, new research has surfaced regarding the connection between the genistein isoflavones it contains and proliferation of breast cancer in certain women. In addition, there are thyroid contraindications and mineral imbalances (especially with zinc) that can be triggered with excessive soy. best, ALG"

You may have fermented soy in the form of tofu and tempeh 2x/week.

If you want to read more, try doing a search here on the Forum where you will find numerous helpful posts on the subject.

    Hope this helps!
