Default Week One - Lost 6 or 6.5 lbs... ? Should I have lost more?

    Hi there,

I lost about 6 or maybe 6.5 after one week.

BUT the first day of the flush, was day 2 of my period... and I lost FIVE pounds, the first day. So, most of that was probably from my period... or at least 3 pounds of it.

So, I only really lost maybe 3 pounds.... Three pounds! After all that deprivation, is a bit disappointing.

I was very good the first few days, doing all exactly. Then 3rd night, had the "fishbone crisis" where I had to eat a bunch of bread to get a stuck fishbone out of my throat. The following night, the throat still hurt and 2 nights later, I "cheated" and had wine while out at a show.

Would I have lost 9 or 10 if all had gone perfectly?

I see others posting they have lost that much the first week, with about the same total weight loss goals as mine.

I mean, I shouldn't be disappointed normally, with 3 pound loss in one week - but considering this is supposed to be the big first 2 week flush, I wish I'd lost more to make a bigger dent (have about 40 total to lose). I was hoping to lose like 15 in the first two weeks, leaving 25 for the Phase 2 slower weight loss... and getting that 15 off would make exercise more possible, too, as I have a few injuries and weight bearing exercise is difficult with all the weight!

3 pounds just doesn't seem right for such a restrictive diet, even with a couple slips.

Anyway - any ideas welcome. Do I just extend the Phase 1 for a few extra days to make up for the blips?

    Thanks.
    K

First of all... don't write off any kind of weight loss! You lost 6, SIX whole pounds, so go ahead and be proud of all six of them!!
If I were you, I might continue on Phase 1 just for another 2 or 3 days, but nobody ever gets through P1 perfectly, so you just have to accept that you're not perfect, congratulate yourself for how successful you have been, and keep the train rollin' into P2.
I also worry that you're calling Fat Flush restrictive! This is the most flexible and yummy way of eating- and I've never been so successful with anything for that very reason.
How about surf n turf with a caesar salad, green beans, and mashed cauliflower??
    Or spaghetti squash and meatballs?
    Or shepard's pie?
Or shrimp skewers with zucchini-cayenne fritters?
I'm just sayin- the possibilities are endless Even growing up in Montana with plenty of 'hungry man' style dinners, I find there are plenty of satisfying options for "comfort food" in my FF repertoire!

You're doing amazing- with results to prove it!! Keep up the good work dear!

How can you make Shepherd's Pie without mashed potatoes...?

I am not much of a cook, so inventing things like spaghetti squash or anything with skewers, is beyond me.

Anyway, I don't think I lost 6 lbs. I think I lost maybe 1 or 2 pounds. When I realize i weighed in on the second morning of my period, I probably had 4-5 lbs of water just from that.

My jeans I'm wearing today are JUST as tight as the last time I wore them, about 10 days ago, before my period. Tight to the point of discomfort. If I'd lost 6 lbs for real, they'd not be quite this snug.

Anyway, so, I'd say my real loss is more like 2 pounds.

And I'm confused where you see any "comfort food" in Phase 1. Caesar salad without caesar dressing or croutons or cheese, isn't really a caesar salad.

I don't mean to sound negative, but are you on the first 2 weeks? That food list is VERY restrictive in my view....?

    Hi K -

So you've had a few stumbles. Don't let that discourage you. Definitely stay on P1 a few more days, to make up for the bread accident – often a cheat in the middle of detox will result in bloating (hence the tight jeans) because you are interrupting things right in the middle, with the toxins and junk in circulation... give it a bit more of a chance to get out, and make sure you drink all your cranwater and additional water, to add up to 1/2 your body weight in ounces. I have had my naughty moments when I was starting out, so I say this from personal experience

The P1 protocol can seem restrictive when you compare it with your usual eating habits, but if you look at the P1 list of allowed foods and seasonings and browse through the recipes, you'll see there is actually A LOT you can eat!

How about some mock potato salad?

Or maybe you want to try some FF waffles for breakfast?

It might be worth trying your hands at some new dishes, and seeing how things can be modified so you can have a taste that reminds you of a favorite dish, but stay on plan and reap the rewards (and there are rewards to be reaped!)

I'm sorry you are disappointed. But things could be looking up in just a few days, if you give the plan a fair shake.

I had a friend who was a picky eater and not much of a cook, but she went on Fat Flush because she was impressed by my results. She complained a lot of being bored the first few days... so I went over to her house and we made a few things: a batch of spaghetti squash pudding topped with blueberries, some flaxcakes with grated apples, some FF deviled eggs, and a big batch of FF Pico de Gallo... which she ended up eating on her steamed cod that evening and then on her eggs every morning for the next few days.
And then she stopped complaining – instead, during the following week she started telling me all about about how she ordered a new rebounder, and had more flaxcakes for breakfast that day, and... you get the drift

But I had been there too – in Fat Flush like in life, when you stop looking at the things you can't have you start seeing the possibilities... and then the real fun begins!

Don't give up. If you need a break, move to P2 for a few days, then get back to P1. Or set your mind on being a trailblazer and just power on through! You'll be glad you did.

Absolutely you should try Tink's suggestion...I make these all the time!

And...do check out the Beef and Veggie Shepherd's Pie on p. 33 of the SS booklet which uses mashed cauliflower in place of potatoes. I bet if you would just give your taste buds a chance to acclimate to new ways of making some standard comfort food dishes, you'll start to become excited about this amazing new way of eating.

The Smoothie Shakedown Guide Booklet has a recipe for P1 friendly caesar salad dressing! Sprinkle with ground flax seeds in place of chia, and top with grilled chicken seasoned with the Shakedown Seasoning! It's a staple in my household

Just for the record, the bread was not a "cheat." I had swallowed a Fish Bone, and the recommended thing from medical advisor was to eat a lot of bread which can surround the fish bone and push it into the stomach, where it will dissolve. As the bone was quite painful and potentially dangerous, of course I ate the bread and went to a doctor as soon as possible afterward.

Thanks for your ideas. Can you come to my house? I have no one to come and show me how to cook, so I am still stuck on boring bland food. Last night I went to one of my local chinese places, and asked them to make shrimp and broccoli with no salt and no msg or anything sweet and salt-free soy sauce - or so i requested. THey did their best, although I could still taste a hint of soy salt, it was better than anything i could have made at home. No sauce of course and no rice.

But cooking, I don't do. Don't have the knowledge or the tools. I can fry eggs and cook salmon and hamburgers and spaghetti, but that's about it. ;-)

    Thanks,
    B

I may not have been clear about the fact that I do not cook. I don't have waffle irons or any of the other fancy gadgets, and I am stumped by basic things (like, what is braising vs. grilling vs. you get the picture).

I live in a city where I eat out most of the time. I make breakfast, and I can make salads and fish and simple stir fry chicken and veggies but that's it. Defrosting or simple recipes or eating out or Trader Joe's are my mainstays.

I don't cook. Can I still lose weight? I am doing the shakes for one meal and eggs for a second, but dinner is the stumper.

Dinner can be simple. Whether you eat in or go out, a 4oz piece of protein with a veggie either cooked or raw. You can have a cooked veggie and a simple salad or lots of one or the other. That's it. Pan fry, sitr fry, broil, grill, bake the protein. The veggies can be fresh steamed or frozen, cooked in a little water in a pan. A salad can be only a couple of your favorite veggies. I get the prewashed salad mixes add either prepackaged shredded carrots, or a tomato, or a cucumber or sprouts. Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar by itself is a tasty dressing.
