    Default 41st b-day approaching...

Hi everyone! I found this site while searching for answers about peri-menopause. (Yes, I've read her book about it.) This fall I will be teaching high school for my third year, first year as certified, and between hitting my 40's and some emotional turmoil this past year (2012) a few pounds have collected on my belly and hips. After reading through the forum links I too am stumped about my chapped lips that fade and return since this late winter. I've dosed up on vitamins and foods rich in flaxseed oil, B vitamins, and zinc. Yes, staying hydrated as much as I can too. They never seem to heal 100% though. I wonder if it is due to hormone levels since things are "changing". My iron levels are good (ER visit in June allowed me to check on that after a respiratory infection scare). I'm a pretty boring patient when I ask for answers. Another freaky issue that started this spring - hives inside my lower lip and gum line when I am stressed. Since school year is done for now I haven't had the "stressor" around to inflict more hives.

Any advice? Tips? Any & all are appreciated!

Hi Millie. Have you considered doing the Saliva Hormone Testing? That was the greatest benefit I got out of the forums when I first started. I was about your same age and having weird health issues as well . The hormone testing gave me remarkable answers which I had been searching for years for. With balancing hormones, I was able to get fit and healthy and lose my weight I'd gained, plus some.

Also - my personal opinion, if you are breaking out in hives, a detox diet is totally the way to start. I get issues like that from build up of toxins and detox is my only solution. Jump starting with ALG's Smoothie Shakedown was such a fast easy detox for me that I really benefited from it immediately.

Welcome to the Forum Millie. Mlb has given you some great advice. When you do the Salivary Hormone Test you also get a letter of recommendations from Ann Louise. Balancing your hormones can be a huge key at this point in your life.

I just wanted to pop on to welcome you to the Forum and Fat Flush! I third the Salivary test. It's made the difference for me in losing the 5 of the 10lbs that had creeped in the last year due to my changing. I'm very hopeful that I'll conquer the last 5.

I only need to control less than 10 pounds of belly & hip "issue" is the Smoothie Shakedown too much of a diet change? I am trying a detox drink I picked up at the Vitamin Shoppe today to see if it helps balance life a little. They also had one of the progesterone creams listed in the peri-menopause book.
The Shakedown is an investment that I want to make sure is the right choice.
    Thanks everyone!

Hi Millie - The Smoothie Shakedown could take care of this for you. It does help reset your metabolism so it is easier to lose weight and to keep it off. Progesterone sounds helpful also if you are having symptoms. The GLA-90 in the Fat Flush Kit also helps with hormone issues.

I ordered a one month Shakedown while it was on sale. 2 weeks for me & 2 weeks for my teenage daughter (who is struggling with her weight). I remembered Janine's comment about the forum discount which "sweetened" the deal that much more. Can you prepare a shake and take it to work without it settling or getting "weird"? I have a lot of seminars & orientations to attend this month. OR I could pack my "regular" meal as my lunch for work...
The detox I picked up from the Vitamin Shoppe didn't seem to do much, so I hope this helps better. I already eat pretty well. My school year begins in a month and I need to ready. Having the summer "off" has reduced most stress but I'm also dealing with mourning my 10-year-old son who died Valentine's Day this year. (He had undiagnosed T1D - no family history on either side.) With all the tears shed since then I'm bound to have an overdose of toxins somewhere.
    Thanks Again!

Grief plays it's own havoc on our bodies and our systems. Give yourself lots of time to heal. There is no easy way to get over the loss of a child you brought into this world. Two years is a healthy amount of time to expect those little memories to still draw a tear.

Haven't done the Shakedown, but so far everything I have done is clearing my system and I'm feeling great. Go for it.

    Hey Millie!
Many of us make a smoothie the night before, freeze it, and take it to work with us the next morning! That seems to work great- just refrigerate or use a cooler bag until you're ready to eat and it will be a lovely, frosty treat
If you prefer to switch it up, another time saver is to make twice as much dinner as you need, and pack the leftovers for your lunch the next day. If every other day you make twice as much dinner, and every other day you make twice as much smoothie, you have half the work and a cycle that won't get boring! You'll do great
