Hi Patty, welcome to the Forum.

Using coconut oil depends on which phase of FF you are on. You can consult your Fat Flush Book and well as the Fat Flush Journal and Shopping Guide for details.

Since that information is copyrighted by the publishers of the books, we do not have permission to post it here on the Forum.

I'll send you a quick private message, so check your inbox.

That information is not in the Fat Flush book index. Nor do I see it on the shopping sections or in any areas referencing the use of oils.

I too would like to use coconut oil but cannot find any reference to it in my FAT FLUSH PLAN book. Please advise.

Coconut oil may be used in moderation in P3. It may not be mentioned specifically in the original book, as it's popularity came after publication, but you can add it to your diet sparingly once you're in maintenance mode. Where you will see it included in the food protocols are in Fat Flush for Life (2009 release) as well as the Gut Flush Plan.

I have been using coconut oil in phase 1 of FFP and have had great results. However, I do not exceed 2 tablespoons in one day. Mostly, I use about 1 teasp to saute my veggies with on any given day. I know coconut oil got a bad rap many years ago, but there are also great qualities that come with this tropical beauty. Its antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti viral properties are awesome.

Some info I found on coconut oil:
Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

CO helps the liver ~ The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.
CO helps kidneys ~ Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.

So, with all the benefits of Coconut oil, why is it used just sparingly in P3? I love the stuff on my skin, too!
This also comes to another question, about coconut flour? Even tho it may be high in fat, it is the same type of fat found in coconut oil. Could this not be used in phase 2 of the program, consumed on occasion?

Coconut oil does have certain benefits, which is why it's permitted in P3 along with other healthy fats such as olive oil, avocados and nuts. The problem is .. coconut oil does not contain omega-3 EFA's. None. Nada.

Flax oil is one of the richest sources of LNA (alpha-linolenic acid), an essential omega-3 fatty acid. Our bodies do not make this EFA; we must get it from food or supplements. Some of this fat will be used for energy, but most LNA will be processed and used for structure, function and repair of cell membranes and tissues.

The specific foods and supplements recommended in FFP are intended to work together to yield not only effective weight loss but also to detoxify the liver, especially in P1. The omega-3 fats are vital for this detox process.

My 2 cents , the best chance for weight loss, improved liver function and overall health, is to follow the plan as written and stick to the specific allowed foods. Once you've reached P3, then you can start adding those other things.
