    Default A question about exercise.

I just start phase 1, and I read that the exrcise is walking and jumping, I have ostearthritis on my left hip. I was thinking to join the gym to go and swim instead of the walking, so I avoid hurting myself and knee pain. Later when I lose more weight I could walk more. Is this a good option?

    Thumbs up

You know that saying, "one must crawl before they walk"? Well, they had to shorten it from it's original version, because it was too long to fit on t-shirts & bumper stickers (Lol!!)

One Must Crawl Before They Walk
    Must Walk Before They Bounce
Must Walk a Little Faster Before They Jog
    Must Jog Before They Run
Most Importantly--Must Take That First Step Before They FLY!!

I also have joint problems. I have Polymyositis as a result of Lupus. Basically that means, you know how your brakes sound when the brake pads have worn down & the brakes are grinding on the rotors? That's how my hips & knees are. My fiance takes me for a walk, because if I fall I might really hurt myself. I feel so *loser-ey* because I am walking as fast as I can, and he is still having to wait for me every few minutes because he can take four steps to every two of mine. But since I started 10 days ago, I've almost doubled the amount of time I can walk (from 20 minutes to 35) and increased the distance I can go in that time from a little over a half-mile to over one mile.

My point is, that I think we each need to find the measurements of our own success and not compare our progress to someone else's. The very fact that I can make it further than to end of the street is a ★★★★ victory for me. Find your measurement of success & celebrate your small victories along the way! Eventually they add up to a big one at the end!

    Default Let's do it!

Thank you all for your reply!

Specially to you Mrsmadtuk. I really admire you for all the effort you are doing. Lets keep the good work and encouragement and we will see results .
Yesterday I walk the 30 minutes. At the end of the day I was very tired, and my children were laughing of me because they say it was nothing (by the way I do not care for what they said, I was laughing with them). Today I wake up a little bit sour, but very optimistic about keep doing it.
I was thinking about the pool in the gym because I believe I will use my whole body, burn more calories, and be able to have a more intense exercise without the danger of being hurt. My only concern is that the book says that in this case says that less is more. I'm not sure for the phase 1, I'm thinking to wait until phase 2, but definitely I will keep moving, and keep writing about my progress.

    thank you again to all.

Definitely go got the water exercise. If all you do is get in and walk in the water, the resistance makes a marvelous workout.

Keep checkin in and telling us how it is going. We're all in this together and here to support you.

Must Walk a Little Faster Before They Jog
    Must Jog Before They Run
Most Importantly--Must Take That First Step Before They FLY!"
