Hi WMN ~ Depending on the length of your stride, a mile is appprox. 1,800 - 2,000 steps. So if you if shorter legs go with 2,000 and long...1,800. HTH

Saturday = 7,800 (best guess-timate of steps during walk-time only, not during remainder of day)
Okay - that's not so pathetic! But hoping for better once the pedometer arrives and an actual count can be computed.
The skies were filled with dark and ominous clouds yesterday, but apparently it rained most everywhere except where I was walking! I've found one (so far) preferred walk-site... close to my mom's apartment building (so I can visit with her before or after my walk)... it's a cemetery with beautiful winding paths throughout. It also dawned on me that one thing I could do in the event of rain would be to walk the halls and stairs of my mom's 3-story apartment building!

Michelle - Haven't had the time to check ceiling height issue, but I will. But, could you explain a bit more about bouncing DOWN, not up?

Kathi - I'll check into those Debbie Rocker DVD's - thanks for the input!!

Can we talk about music? Music really motivates me when I'm walking, helping me to keep a consistent pace in addition to keeping pesky day-to-day minutia out of my thoughts.

I have 2 pieces of music that I've decided will always be part of my warm-up and/or cool-down walking. They're both by Yanni. One is titled, interestingly enough, "Walkabout" and the other is titled "Sand Dance" (both from his CD titled In Celebration of Life).

If you're a "musical walker" as well, what are some songs that you listen to during your walks? Have any suggestions for additions to songlists for walking?

I think Kathleen had mentioned in an earlier post, that there is a web site where you can enter the number of beats per minute, and it will give you a list of songs.

I love walking to music! I rebound to music also!

Years ago I got the first cassette tape in the PraiseWalk series. I fell in love with it and that's basically the only tape I walk with. The name is Get Going & tape #2 is Taking Charge (still good, but not my favorite). The music is Contemporary Christian Music & there is a voice-over that tells you to stretch before starting and when to turn the tape over if you're doing only a 30 minute walk with the full tape being 60 minutes. Each tape begins at a comfortable warm-up pace, increases gradually & maintains a brisk workout, and then gradually slows down to a cool-down pace. I've been wondering if these are still available in case my favorite one breaks. Probably not. They were produced in 1995 by Integrity Music, Inc.

For rebounding, I work-out to a CD by Bucky Covington. He's a country singer that was on American Idol several years ago. When I dug out my rebounder I had this CD in my player & now I can't seem to rebound to anything else. (I know---- I'm strange!)

Tink, a majority of the "bounces" on the rebounder are done with your feet never leaving the mat. Even though you're not bouncing high, you get the full benefit of each and every bounce. You can even sit on the rebounder and bounce for full benefit. This isn't like a trampoline where you're bouncing very high. If you want to check out more about the benefits of rebounding I can give you some websites & the name of a book----just PM me.

Thanks Terri, I do have short legs, more like tree trunks, but they have carried me all of my life none the less.
Tink, so glad to read that you found a place to walk! The cemetery is an excellent place! No one will bother you!
On the topic of music, I could not live without my ipod! I have bunch of play lists from 20 minute up to 45 minutes I use for walking and rebounding! It really livens things up, especially when I'm not in "the mood." I always feel so much better afterwards. I like a faster-paced songs to listen to, of all genre's. I mix them up to keep things interesting.

Terri - I've got that website, and another that allows you to tap any key in time to your music and it will provide a read-out of the BPM. I also just found that the iTunes software for my iPod also allows for a column for BPM. I was actually just more curious as to what songs/music people found to be motivating.

LadiBug - When that tape breaks you need to get an iPod! Actually, you should get get one before the tape breaks, convert the cassette to an MP3 file (not horrendously difficult to do), and load it onto the iPod.

I think that was when I was all crazy over Taylor Hicks!

I MY iPOD! And, like you, I like a combination of genres, played on shuffle.

It's currently POURING OUT! Fingers crossed that it will stop later on.
