Low stomach acid has been linked to this increasingly prevalent skin problem.Afflicting at least 14 million Americans, rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness and pimples on the chin, cheeks, forehead, and particularly the nose. No healthy blush, this redness is truly embarrassing—and it can hurt, much the way burning, stinging, and sunburned [...]

I am fascinated by the notion that I could be HCL deficient. I have been plagued by rosacea and other skin problems as well as autoimmune problems including fibro and sjogren's for a long time. I've always wondered if there was some connection but haven't been able to figure out what it was. I also have some lesser symptoms/problems like burping/belching almost immediately after I eat and excessive flatulence. I bought the HCL from Solaray with 650 mg HCL. I felt a little funny after I took one capsule with my meal, but I didn't have bad heartburn or anything. I tried it again and same thing. I'm very hopeful this could be an answer for me. Of course, all of symptoms/problems are better while doing FF. But it doesn't totally go away.
Interested in any and all info/thoughts anyone has. |

Steph ~
I used to have really bad rosacea. And after starting on FFP I saw some improvement, but it wasn't until I started taking the supplements in the FF Kit (I double the dose of the GLA 90) and the HCL+2 that my skin completely cleared up. I only use the supplements that are available from UniKey. The reason is...they have a very stringent quality control that they put all the products through, and they have very high standards. It was after a couple of months of taking these that my husband noticed how clear my skin had become. No more red painful bumps, (I used to get them in my nose and inside my eyelids...very painful). It's all gone. And I couldn't be happier. HTH

Just make sure to give it at least 3 months. Take a picture of before and after. If you do this now and then when you see that it had cleared up....you will be amazed at the difference. I used to wear so much makeup to cover it all up, and now I wear very little...just some powder. It made my husband a real believer. When he complains about the money I spend on supplements...all I have to do is point at my face...,and his comment is "ok...never mind, continue". Rosacea can be both physically and mentally painful, at least...that was my experience.

Thanks, Terri, for your responses. As you know, this is a daily burden. I have spent thousands on laser treatments and all kinds of other stuff. I would so love it if this would get it under control. If it totally disappeared I would be ecstatic. My dream is to go to the grocery store with no makeup on Saturday morning.
Can you point me in the direction of further writings by ALG on this topic? Did I see that there's more about HCL in FTDD? Is it recommended to follow the protocol I've seen on the net that says to increase your HCL until you start to have heartburn? Thanks so much! |

Steph ~
It's not really heartburn, but a warming feeling in your stomach. Yes...take the HCL challenge as it is explained in the FTDD, on pg. 48. And I suggest that you use the HCL+2 from UniKey. Have you done a search to find other posts and threads by Dr. Ann Louise regarding rosacea?

I did some searches about the HCL deficiency, and I'm really interested in this as the possible root cause of a lot of my autoimmune problems. The FTDD is one of the few books I don't have so I think I will get it and read what it says about this. I tried two HCL capsules tonight with my supper and no problems with that dosage. I am noticing less belching with has normally been a lot.

Terri, I am doing an HCL challenge and I have gotten up to 6 ( ! ) 650mg HCL capsules with no reaction. The directions say to stop at 7 so I must not be producing much stomach acid at all, if any.
